I began reading this book with the notion of a man who fell into success and is taking advantage of people willing to listen. After I worked through Grant’s book I realized that a lot of his topics are very applicable to everyday life. Either in business or personal life, working 10X harder than the opposition should bring greater results. I say should because I feel that working smarter could bring you just as much success without spending all the time. I feel that managing your time efficiently can bring the same results as multiplying everything you do by ten. I cant agree more with Grant on how you need to take control of your time and not allow others to do so!! Doing the wrong thing ten times more and ending that much more time does not make it the right thing to do. Of course, take to mind Im criticising someone who has had proven success.
I am a proponent of criticism either negative or positive. I am a person that has thrived on negative criticism, but that is on a case by case situation. I believe that if a person either friend or collegue is taking the time to criticize you, then they care about your success. You need to know where to recognize the legitimate criticisms. There are a lot of negative people who judge your actions because they are unable to reach the level that your efforts have taken you. Avoiding negativity is a challenge, but no one is interested in interacting with a perosn that brings them down.
I feel that all the aspects of Grant’s book are sure fire ways to try to be successful. The real key is your mindset from the get-go!! If you dont work harder than the opposition, how do you expect to be more successful. If you dont have any goals, what are you working towards. In my experience, working harder than others typically takes you to higher levels. The one aspect of Grant’s book that I disagree with is his dislike of competition. I think competition is a key factor in out-working the opposition. If there is no one to compete with, then there should be no issue with your success. It would be an ideal situation, but thats not how life works!!!
